정의선 양궁협회장 5선 성공, 2025년까지 임기 연장

대한양궁협회가 정의선 현 회장 체제로 4년 더 운영된다. 양궁협회는 8일 “정 회장이 제13대 회장에 당선돼 5선 연임에 성공했다. 향후 2025년까지 협회를 이끈다”고 발표했다. 대한체육회 회원종목단체 임원은 원칙적으로 한 차례만 연임할 수 있지만, 해당 종목과 협회에 대한 기여도가 명확할 경우 엄격한 심사를 거쳐 3선 이상도 가능하다. 현대자동차 그룹 오너인 정 회장은 2005년 5월 양궁협회장으로 부임한 이후 16년간 한국 양궁을 이끌며 파격적인 투자를 바탕으로 세계 톱 클래스 경쟁력을 유지해냈다. 상급 4억5000만원 규모의 ‘현대자동차 정몽구배 한국양궁대회’를 창설했고, 초ㆍ중학교에 양궁 장비 지원 사업도 진행했다. 정 회장이 이끄는 양궁협회는 대한체육회 가맹 단체 중에서도 모범 운영 사례로 첫 손에 꼽힌다. 대한체육회도 정 회장의 공로를 인정해 지난해 11월 스포츠공정위원회 심사에서 정 회장의 연임 출마를 허용했다. 정 회장은 지난달 28일 끝난 양궁협회장 선거 후보 등록 기간 중 단독 입후보했고, 선거 없이 당선을 확정지었다. 정 회장은 양궁협회를 통해 “깊은 책임감과 사명감을 느낀다. 한국 양궁의 발전적인 미래를 만들기 위해 노력하겠다”는 소감을 전했다. 송지훈 기자 song.jihoon@joongang.co.kr 2021.01.08 18:11
